The French data protection authority (CNIL) has announced that it has issued formal warnings to some organisations to ensure their photo reader device which automatically capture entry into the workplace comply with the GDPR.

CNIL says a photo reader device and the obligatory and systematic collection of photographs, for the purposes of managing employee working hours, is excessive and that a traditional employee clock-in system would suffice.
